The British School in Tokyo recently hosted an exciting U13 criiio Cup, welcoming five teams for a day of competitive cricket. With the trophy on the line, students brought plenty of energy and enthusiasm, creating an enjoyable atmosphere both on and off the field.

The tournament is part of an ongoing partnership between the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) and The British School in Tokyo (BST), which is committed to creating more opportunities for children to experience. Through this collaboration, cricket has continued to grow within the school community, providing a pathway for students to develop their skills.

"Criiio is such a fun version of cricket and so accessible for our students - whether they are just starting to learn the basics of cricket or mastering their techniques. I'm thankful to JCA for organising and putting these events together, to allow our students an opportunity to compete in a friendly, supportive environment. - Dominic Hill, Coach of U11 BST Girls Cricket Club

One of the most exciting outcomes has been the establishment of an U11 Girls Cricket Club run by BST. As these players continue to develop, many are expected to progress into the U13 Girls Club later this year, with the long-term goal of preparing them to transition into hardball cricket over the coming years.

Throughout the day, teams played a series of exciting matches filled with memorable moments. Parents were also welcomed to the event, giving them the opportunity to watch their children in action while learning more about the growing range of junior cricket opportunities available.

Events like The BST U13 criiio Cup are helping introduce more young people to the game, strengthen school cricket programmes, and inspire the next generation of players to continue their cricket journey
