The Men’s Japan National Team were unable to progress through the tough group at the 2026 Asian Games in Nisshin City, Aichi after rain prevented the must-win match against Nepal from being completed.
After rain delayed the start of the match causing it to be shortened to 15 overs per side, Japan won the toss and chose to bowl.
Japan made a strong start as Reo Sakurano struck early again, and although there were also wickets for Ibrahim Takahashi, Declan Suzuki and debutant Jake Kusuda, it was the Nepali batters who put on a show for the supporters.
Sundeep Jora and Lokesh Bam each passed fifty, with Jora making 57 not out from 32 balls and Bam going even faster with 52 not out from 22 balls as they added 65 in the final five overs.
The rain was falling steadily during the partnership between Jora and Bam, making it difficult for the bowlers and fielders and, once the teams left the field for the innings break, they never returned.
The shared point for Nepal means that they progress to the Quarter Finals as Group Winners following their impressive win over Afghanistan, while Japan exit the tournament.
